Ranyee: I'll be covering NLP aswell as Anchoring and Priming since these three things mostly go together quite well
Ranyee: starting with NLP because it's pretty much what the other two things build up from
Ranyee: so first of all what even is NLP?
Shen: I know I have no clue
Ranyee: NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic-Programming
Ranyee: so basically programming the brain using your speech
Ranyee: it's a communication technique developed in the late 1970's I believe
Ranyee: but the story behind it is not what you're here for I guess~
Ranyee: anyways as NLP is used in almost all therapies nowadays and that's where I know it from aswell I'll be starting off with the basics
Ranyee: it doesn't necessarily have to do something with hypnosis even thought it can be used in it
Ranyee: so in fact NLP is all about the subjects point of view
Ranyee: one of the "rules" in NLP is that what the subject (or the person you use it on in general) understands is true and not what you said
Ranyee: it's also believed that there are no bad people. that obviously doesn't have anything to do with the hypnosis aspect
Ranyee: but what I mean by that is, that if people do or not do something they believe it's the right thing to do and have a reason to believe so
Ranyee: I'll try bringing up examples related to hypnosis most of the time
Ranyee: but for this one it's easier explained this way:
Ranyee: let's say I'd be mean to damdam
dami: mmm
Ranyee: he'd smack me in the face then he wouldn't be doing this because he's a dick
Ranyee: but because he believes that I deserve to be hit and that it will make me understand not to bully him and that it's the best way to stop me
Ranyee: that's pretty much the bliefs of NLP. there is some other stuff but that's not important for us right now
Ranyee: NLP in this case would really just be pretty basic
Ranyee: you'd walk up to dam telling him hiting me wasn't the best approach and that next time he should just try talking to me at first
Ranyee: if you manage to tell him that without judging or insulting him, congrats you just used NLP
Ranyee: of course it's not always that simple
Suki: what makes that NLP?
Ranyee: NLP in that matter is really just suggesting alternative ways to do and approach things
Ranyee: like I said in that example it's still very very basic
Ranyee: chances are that if damdam doesn't like you a lot he won't give a shit about what you told him and just smack me again next time
Ranyee: so NLP needs a somewhat good relationship between the subject and the person performing NLP to work
Suki: ok
Lix: Oh!
Lix: So let's say, if someone was being bullied.
Lix: Or let's say, someone was being harmed.
Lix: There could be a few outcomes, based on who the person is, and how they operate? E.g. Talking to them to calm the bully down, reasoning with them, complying with them.
Lix: Etc.
Lix: Correct, or no?
Ranyee: Pretty much, yes.
Lix: And NLP does what?
Lix: To that person?
Lix: Defines which they should do most?
Ranyee: NLP is just a communication technique to reach that person better
Ranyee: all it does is asking what are you doing? what is the outcome of this? is this the outcome you desire? if it's not what else can you do?
Ranyee: the more in-depth things will be covered onceI get to Anchoring and Priming
Lix: I sort of understand. You can continue, sorry for the interruption.
Ranyee: Like I said, interrupt me as much as you like.
Ranyee: so in fact NLP is a technique a lot of personal trainers use aswell to motivate people
Ranyee: motivating and manipulating people are actually kinda the same thing
Ranyee: it works a little differently though
Ranyee: it's pretty much just "well if you want A then you'll have to work for it doing B"
Ranyee: so that covers the bare basics of NLP, but it's all that applies to hypnosis so I'll leave the other stuff out
Ranyee: any questions?
Mar: no questions from me so far
Suki: makes sense so far
Ranyee: uhm one more thing about NLP
Ranyee: it's nothing big and it's kinda hard to do via text
Ranyee: but it might come in handy irl
Ranyee: which is mirroring
Ranyee: you may have heard about it before
Ranyee: the person you're talking to is more likely to listen to you if you do the same thing as they do and take the same position
Ranyee: so like if they have their legs crossed you have too
Suki: I've found it also helps to establish how your personalities and opinions on things are similar as well
Ranyee: exactly
Lix: So, if you see yourself in someone, you'll trust them more
Lix: Correct?
Ranyee: You trust and like them more, which is why you're more likely to do what they want from you, yes.
Ranyee: which is where we get to priming
Ranyee: where it gets a lot more interesting for most of you as priming has a lot more to do with hypnosis
Ranyee: so the basics of priming are pretty simple
Ranyee: what you're trying to do is getting the subject to associate an action a sound or something with an emotion
Ranyee: or a feeling
Suki: "triggers"
Ranyee: yeah somewhat
Lix: I'd say triggers are more
Lix: Short term
Lix: Whereas this is more.. long term but less effective.
Lix: Would I be correct in saying that or no?
Lix: Like a burst compared to overtime.
Ranyee: summs it up very well
Lix: I see I see
Ranyee: it works like a little trigger, getting people to feel a bit more relaxed when you touch their elbow or something like that
Ranyee: it takes longer to be effective than a trigger
Ranyee: but it works without hypnotizing people
Ranyee: and if the person you use it on is not familiar with it chances are they won't even notice
Ranyee: and it's basically easy to do
Lix: Sorry for so much of this.
Lix: but let's say your boss is happy.
Lix: And you want a raise.
Lix: For the last 10 months, every time he was happy, you touched his shoulder.
Lix: He is depressed today, so you tap him on the shoulder
Lix: and ask him for a raise.
Lix: He gives you it, and for the rest of the day, he seems happier.
Ranyee: haha that was exactly the example I was about to bring up
Lix: ahaha! Wonderful <3 I've heard it before is all
Ranyee: that's exactly how it works
Ranyee: just that it's not THAT strong
Lix: Oh yeah, of course.
Ranyee: you can of course use it in chat aswell
Ranyee: it just works differently
Ranyee: there's actually a lot of ways to use it here
Lix: Like Kitsuki's /me Hugs.
Ranyee: I love how you took exactly that example
Ranyee: but let me take a different one because I don't think everyone get what you mean
Ranyee: so lets say you already have a subject under
Ranyee: what you can do is either
Ranyee: A use some /me emote or some phrase before the commands you give
Ranyee: or B use some smily face behind your commands
Ranyee: or something like that
Ranyee: and the subject will automatically start associating these smileys or /me emotes with your commands and will be MUCH more likely to do what you ask of them outside of trance if you just do the same thing
Lix: Ah!
Lix: That is cool to know :3
Suki: what's so special about Kitsuki's hugs? O.o
Lix: Well, everytime they feel happy
Lix: Kitsuki says /me Hugs.
Lix: Therefore
Lix: When they're sad
Lix: The first thing they do
Lix: Is do /me Hugs.
Lix: It has never really worked on me
Lix: Since I picked up on it from the first day
Lix: And either ignored it, or just gave kitsuki what he wanted
Ranyee: it works the same way as irl
Ranyee: just via text
Ranyee: of course you can just do the same thing as irl in chat with /me commands
Ranyee: only that /me touches your elbow would seem kinda fucking weird
Lix: Yeah of course x'D
Ranyee: so /me hugs is a good example since nobody would get suspicious
Ranyee: priming is a very manipulative technique though
Lix: Mhm.
Suki: apparently hugs are very suspicious
Shen: I didnt think so
Shen: until now
Shen has my eye on you
Ranyee: btw guys I have a fun story on this
Lix: alright! Story time
Ranyee: I have a ring
Ranyee: and back when I had a girlfriend I would always take this ring off before fingering her
Lix: oooh
Suki: :3
Ranyee: so after a while she would instantly get wet when I took off my ring
Lix: Ohoh!
Ranyee: it was hilarious, I didn't even intend to do that though
Lix: nice one ;3
Ranyee: after I noticed I was like "duh, obvious" but I didn't think about it at all
Suki gets a little wet
Shen: a pavlovian ring
Shen: (like the bell)
Shen: (pavlov rung a bell before feeding his dogs food so that they would drool at the ring of a bell)
Shen: (tell me I'm clever)
Ranyee: you're very clever shen
Shen:
Ranyee: but ye thats pretty much how it works
Ranyee: you even use it on dogs
Lix: Ahaha <3
Ranyee: I mean if they don't behave you spray them with water
Lix: It's so cool to think it's in every day of our lives.
Lix: Conditioning is great!
Ranyee: so they associate this bad behavior with a bad feeling
Ranyee: any more questions?
Lix: I don't think so :3
Mar: I just felt that I should point out that if someone has a negative reaction to something you're doing in trance, you should never touch them until you've brought them out of it
Mar: because it's much easier for them to learn to associate that negative feeling with your touch than it normally would be
Lix: Oh!
Lix: That is good to think of :3
Lix: I never thought of that C:
Ranyee: oh btw one more thing about priming
Ranyee: It works passively too
Lix: Yeah?
Ranyee: like if EVERYONE told you how wet they got when someone took of his/her ring it'd happen to you aswell
Ranyee: silly example but you get my point I guess
dami: thinking primming it with few sentence put the person in the good mindset
Suki: maybe that's why I get wet from that story...
Cel: sometimes even thinking about how something might affect you can have a noticeable effect as well
Suki is very easy to prime
Ranyee: what Cel said
Ranyee: btw guys I just realised I can't tell you a whole lot about anchors
Lix: Why not? o.o
Ranyee: anchors are basically priming people to associate things with trancing
Ranyee: so for most people it's spirals
Suki: why's that?
Lix: Oh.
Ranyee: for me it's also eyes
Ranyee: a certain sentence maybe
Ranyee: anchoring is pretty similar to triggers aswell
Lix: but yeah. I don't mind you teaching us about that.
Lix: I'm awake as fuck right now :3
Lix: but i could be a demonstration if you'd like .-.
Ranyee: haha I'm glad you remind me of it
Ranyee: because it doesn't work like that
Ranyee: NLP aswell as priming work on you even if you are aware of it
Ranyee: I mean it works less well
Ranyee: but it still works
Ranyee: irl atleast
Ranyee: via chat you could argue about it
Ranyee: it's nothing you can demonstrate because nlp and priming are things you do while in a conversation
Ranyee: in fact I could be priming you right now
Suki: people should understand that manipulation is in everything, people do it without realizing sometimes even
Ranyee: so yeah
Ranyee: that's pretty much it
Suki: it's not that we should be afraid of being manipulated, but the intentions behind them
Suki: at least that's how I feel >_>
Ranyee: Questions, Feedback, insults?
Suki: that was my feedback
Cel: though my main bugbear with NLP is the reliance of anchoring to physical things, some people dislike being touched out of the blue, and you could just as easily anchor it to something you say
Shen: Thanks for the lesson Ranyee, I appreciate your time and effort
Lix: ^ Yes, thank you ranyee C:
Mar: yes, thank you
